Big Brother Naija winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has launched a scathing attack on the Dangote Group, accusing the company of negligence and insensitivity in the handling of her sister’s death and burial.
Phyna’s younger sister, Ruth Otabor, died in September under circumstances she described as “tragic, calculated and planned.” In an emotional outburst on Instagram, the reality star alleged that the company failed to honour its public promise to fully cover medical and burial expenses.
She claimed that while Dangote Group settled bills at Lagoon Hospital in Lagos, her family was left to shoulder additional medical costs from Auchi to Irrua, without reimbursement.
“The bills from Auchi down to Irrua were covered by the family; no refund has been made,” Phyna lamented.
Phyna further accused the company of going silent on the day of Ruth’s burial. “On Sept 13th, the day of burial, Dangote groups did not pick up all calls made to them from us, as we were told the bills were not paid, but they claim it was,” she alleged.
The reality star also shared a letter purportedly drafted by Dangote Group and sent to her father, demanding his signature on an acknowledgment of receipt for burial expenses. She denounced the act as “impersonation,” insisting the family should have been contacted directly.
“This letter that was sent to my dad this evening is really paining me. @dangotegroup you killed my sister, did massive PR, gave the girl’s papa money for burial, then still by yourself wrote an acknowledgement letter impersonating my father and sent it to him to sign,” she wrote.
Phyna questioned why a conglomerate of Dangote’s stature would allegedly attempt to control the narrative instead of treating her grieving family with “honesty and respect.”
As of the time of filing this report, Dangote Group has not issued an official response to the allegations.
