Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, is reportedly on the verge of leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in what could be one of the most significant political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC’s National Chairman, Dr Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, and Deputy National Chairman (South-East), Chief Emma Eneukwu, disclosed the development on Friday during the inauguration of the new Enugu State caretaker committee at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
According to the APC leadership, Governor Mbah is expected to officially declare for the party next week at a grand event to be held in Enugu State.
Ben Nwoye, who chairs the newly inaugurated caretaker committee, confirmed the move and revealed that Mbah would be joining the APC alongside his appointees.
“The governor will join the ruling party with all his appointees. Enugu will soon experience a new political wave,” Nwoye stated.
Mbah’s defection, if confirmed, will further tilt the political balance in the South-East, where the APC has been making inroads despite its limited foothold in past elections.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, may also be considering a similar move to the APC, signaling a possible wave of defections from the opposition ahead of 2027.
