The Take-It-Back Movement (TIB), in alliance with the Movement for the Transformation of Nigeria (MoTion), has announced plans to hold nationwide protests on Friday, October 17, 2025, to challenge what they describe as “anti-people” government policies under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to a statement issued by Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek, the Lagos State Coordinator of TIB, the protest will kick off at 7 a.m. at the Lagos State House of Assembly, with similar demonstrations expected in other parts of the country.
The organisers said the rally would unite workers, students, traders, and the unemployed in a mass action against what they called crippling poverty, exploitative fuel tax, and oppressive tax reforms.
They accused the government of worsening the economic situation of ordinary Nigerians through policies that “protect the rich while punishing the poor.”
“In recent months, millions of Nigerians have been pushed deeper into poverty as the cost of living skyrockets beyond survival limits. The regime’s so-called ‘tax reform’ has only worsened economic hardship, targeting the poor while protecting the rich,” the statement read.
The protest, tagged a “people’s resistance march,” aims to amplify citizens’ frustrations over the soaring cost of living, forced evictions, and increasing unemployment rates.
The Take-It-Back Movement, founded as a grassroots coalition for social justice and economic reform, has been one of the most vocal critics of the government’s economic direction since the removal of fuel subsidies and implementation of new tax measures.
