The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has alleged a plot by unidentified individuals to mobilise thugs to attack the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, during a public event scheduled for Sunday.
In a statement released on Saturday by the state’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Shittu Bamaiyi, the party claimed it had uncovered plans to disrupt the Gindiri Old Students’ Reunion Service in Mangu Local Government Area, where Yilwatda is expected to be in attendance.
According to the statement, the alleged organisers of the planned attack have been holding meetings at a private residence in Jos, where logistics are being arranged to deploy hired thugs to the venue.
“As part of the plan, three buses have been arranged in each of the 20 electoral wards in Mangu to transport thugs to the Gindiri Missionary Compound, where they intend to embarrass the National Chairman and his team,” the APC alleged.
The party also said unconfirmed intelligence suggested that additional groups of thugs would be stationed at the Gindiri Roundabout, with journalists reportedly being mobilised to create the impression that Plateau residents are hostile toward Yilwatda.
“In view of this unhealthy development, the APC, as a law-abiding political party, is urgently calling on security agencies to investigate the matter to prevent any breakdown of law and order,” Bamaiyi said.
He appealed to APC supporters across the state to remain calm and law-abiding, urging them not to be provoked by any attempts to disrupt peace or tarnish the party’s image.
Security agencies are yet to respond to the allegations.
