The Ezi-Mbieri autonomous community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State has been thrown into mourning following the death of His Royal Highness, Eze Henry Anoruo Madumere, JP — father of the former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere.
The revered monarch, who passed on at the age of 93, was described as a man of peace, wisdom, and deep faith in God. His first son, Prince Chijioke Madumere, confirmed the passing in a statement made available to journalists, noting that his father’s reign was defined by humility, fairness, and compassion.
He urged the people of Ezi-Mbieri to keep the Madumere royal dynasty in their prayers during this period of grief.
Following the announcement, the interim leadership of Ezi-Mbieri, led by the President-General, Emmanuel Ihentuge, in collaboration with the Royal Cabinet and the Eze-In-Council, declared a period of mourning across the community.
According to the statement, all major activities, including elections, festivals, and social gatherings, have been suspended until after the monarch’s burial.
“The Eze-In-Council shall continue in an advisory capacity,” the statement read. “Chief Vincent Oparaji, the Palace Secretary, will serve as the Regent, while Mrs. Ebere Nwaneri has been reappointed as Acting Women Leader, and Comrade Uche Agoha as Acting Youth Leader — all to serve until the burial rites are concluded.”
The President-General also disclosed that a burial committee would be constituted to plan and coordinate the funeral of the late royal father.
In an emotional tribute, former Deputy Governor Prince Eze Madumere described his late father as a God-fearing, compassionate, and selfless leader who dedicated his life to the service of humanity.
He prayed for divine wisdom and strength for the royal family and the people of Ezi-Mbieri to bear the loss, adding that the date for the burial would be announced soon.
“May the soul of HRH Eze Henry Anoruo Madumere, JP, find eternal rest in the bosom of the Lord,” he said. “May his legacy of peace, humility, and service to God and mankind continue to guide the people of Ezi-Mbieri toward a brighter future.”
The official announcement was attended by prominent community leaders, including the Chairman of the Mbieri Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Dr. Peter Opara; Prof. Chinedu Anosike (Cona); Barr. Victor Iwuagwu; Interim Secretary-General of Ezi-Mbieri, Princess Ada Ngozi Madumere-Oguwuike; Prince Henry Nnayereugo Madumere; and Chief Martins Iwuajoku, among others.
