Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has accused authorities of withholding her international passport, alleging that she has once again been prevented from travelling abroad without any court order.
Speaking in a live Facebook broadcast on Tuesday morning, the lawmaker expressed frustration over what she described as a recurring act of intimidation.
“Having completed the celebration of my second year, I decided to take a week off and my passport is being withheld again. The same thing happened before,” Akpoti said.
She insisted that she had not committed any offence and that there was no judicial directive authorising the seizure of her travel document.
“I have committed no offence and there is no order from the court to seize my passport or deny me travelling,” she added.
The senator further alleged that during a previous incident, an officer informed her that Senate President Godswill Akpabio had ordered that her passport be withheld to prevent her from travelling.
The lawmaker did not provide details on the authority currently in possession of her passport but hinted that she would pursue the matter through appropriate legal and institutional channels.
The Senate and the Office of the Senate President are yet to issue an official response to the allegation.
