Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has opened up about how the rising tribal and religious divisions across the country have left him deeply depressed.
Falz shared his frustration while reacting to a post by fellow entertainer Nasboi, who urged Nigerians to set aside tribal and religious differences and unite to hold leaders accountable.
Nasboi had written:
“We’ve really kept quiet in this country. Reminiscing stories like ‘snake swallowing money.’ These politicians really take us for granted—busy stealing money they cannot finish on earth. It’s time to put our tribes and religions aside. Put this country first.”
Responding to the post, Falz said it was heartbreaking to see Nigerians still manipulated along ethnic and religious lines despite decades of failed leadership.
“I cannot begin to explain how depressing it has been in recent years, seeing tribal and religious sentiments still being used to turn us against each other. At some point, we need to start thinking for ourselves,” he wrote.
The multi-award-winning rapper’s comments come amid renewed social media debates between Christian and Muslim youths following US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks about alleged genocidal attacks on Christians in Nigeria and his threat to take military action.
Falz, known for his activism and politically charged music, has often called on young Nigerians to challenge corrupt systems and resist divisive politics.
