Hon. Engr. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources and representative of Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Koki cited persistent internal leadership crises at the party’s national level as the primary reason for his departure. In a resignation letter dated November 11, 2025, addressed to the Zaitawa Ward Chairperson, he explained that the ongoing disputes at the party’s center had hindered his ability to effectively serve his constituents.
“I have taken this decision because the internal crisis in the party leadership at the centre has made it difficult, if not impossible, for me to continue discharging my duties and provide my people with the desired representation in the House of Representatives,” Koki stated.
While expressing gratitude to the NNPP for providing him with a platform to serve, he described the experience as invaluable. He also noted that his resignation complies with Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution and the party’s constitution.
Koki’s exit comes just two days after Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, left the NNPP to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling growing instability within the party.
