Macroeconomic Stability, Predictability Key to Attracting Investors — CBN Governor Cardoso

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Yemi Cardoso, has emphasized that Nigeria does not need to persuade investors to commit capital if the country maintains strong macroeconomic fundamentals. Speaking at the bank’s 2025 Executive Seminar, Cardoso highlighted stability and predictability as essential to attracting long-term investment.

“Stability is at the core of advancing Nigeria’s policy framework through inflation targeting,” he said. “A credible inflation targeting regime enhances predictability, anchors long-term investments, and encourages investors to come naturally. You don’t need to beg anyone to invest.”

The governor also underscored transparency in the bank’s operations, noting that personal connections are no longer necessary for approvals.

Cardoso warned against heavy reliance on Ways and Means borrowing, cautioning that previous high ratios relative to GDP must not recur. He stressed consolidating reforms to strengthen investor confidence, safeguard financial markets, and sustain capital inflows.

Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, praised the synergy between fiscal and monetary authorities. She highlighted measures to reduce energy costs and streamline business registration to boost productivity.

Uzoka-Anite noted that Nigeria’s challenges are structural rather than cyclical, emphasizing integrated monetary and fiscal interventions. She also highlighted the Dis-Inflation and Growth Acceleration Strategy (DGAS), co-created by the Ministry of Finance and the CBN, as a blueprint to achieve non-inflationary growth, structural transformation, and enhanced competitiveness for investors.

“DGAS provides a comprehensive framework to ensure non-inflationary growth and structural transformation, ensuring Nigeria remains attractive for investors,” she said.
