A senior figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Mallam Alwan Hassan, has retracted his explosive allegation that senators received a $10 million bribe to halt the confirmation of Engr. Ramat Abdullahi as chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Hassan, a former Special Adviser to ex–Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, made the U-turn while speaking with journalists in Abuja, offering an unreserved apology to the National Assembly and its leadership.
“I fully retract that statement and offer my sincere apologies,” he said, urging lawmakers to confirm Abdullahi as recommended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Hassan also spoke confidently about the APC’s chances in the 2027 governorship election, insisting that the party is rebuilding its political machinery and reuniting its power blocs ahead of the polls.
According to him, the state needs to “realign with the centre” to accelerate development, arguing that Kano’s future is tied to closer collaboration with the Federal Government.
“Just wait and see,” he told reporters. “APC will take over Kano in 2027.”
His remarks underline the growing political manoeuvring already underway in Kano — one of Nigeria’s most influential states and a crucial battleground ahead of the next election cycle.
