A fresh wave of cult violence has gripped Lagos State after a deadly clash between rival Aiye and Eiye groups left one man dead and several others injured in the Awoyaya–Ibeju-Lekki axis.
Tension swept through the community as the fighting, which began on Monday and continued into Tuesday, unfolded across several streets. The victim, identified by residents as Pelebe, reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained during the confrontation.
Videos circulated on the Telegram channel Naija Confra, known for chronicling cult-related activities, showed chaotic scenes of residents running for cover as gunshots echoed in the area. One clip captured Pelebe lying on the ground in blue jeans and a white shirt, writhing in pain moments before he died.
Additional graphic images posted on the platform revealed another young man with a deep gunshot wound to the leg in the Iya Alagbo neighbourhood.
“Earlier today (Tuesday), we reported a serious cult clash in the Awoyaya area of Ibeju-Lekki involving Eiye and Aiye, where killings happened yesterday (Monday) and today (Tuesday),” Naija Confra wrote in one of its updates.
Unconfirmed accounts suggest security operatives may have made arrests, but the Lagos Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, told our correspondent she would “revert” when contacted for clarification. She had not issued any official update at the time of publication.
The flare-up comes less than two weeks after suspected cultists opened fire during a masquerade festival in Orile-Iganmu — an attack that reignited concerns over the rising tide of cult violence across Lagos.
