The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports of an armed invasion in the Ajebo community near Agbowa, describing the widely circulated story as “mischievous, untrue and misleading.”
The viral reports, which suggested that gunmen stormed the community between Monday and Tuesday, forcing residents to flee, sparked concern across social media.
But the police, in a statement issued on Friday through a series of posts on X, clarified that no armed attack occurred. Instead, officers said the disturbance stemmed from a land dispute between two rival families.
According to the command, a joint security team—including Tactical Squads, Police Mobile Force anti-riot personnel, operatives from Agbowa Division, Area N Command and other specialised units—was deployed immediately after receiving a distress report.
“Normalcy was promptly restored as residents continued their daily activities,” the police said.
The command stressed that contrary to circulating claims, no gunshots were fired, no deaths were recorded, and no one sustained injuries before or during the confrontation.
“There was no invasion of the community by any armed group from anywhere,” the statement added.
Authorities say the dispute has been contained and urged the public to disregard false narratives capable of causing panic.
