Ukwa La Ngwa Set for Historic Aba Reception as Governor Otti’s Reforms Gain Widespread Backing

Ukwa La Ngwa, one of Abia State’s largest socio-political blocs, is preparing for a landmark reception in honour of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, as supporters hail what they describe as a dramatic turnaround in governance and development across the state.

The event, scheduled for 30 January 2026 at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, is being organised in collaboration with the Aba Union, led by Chief Barrister Theo Nkire. It is expected to draw a massive crowd from across the nine local government areas that make up Ukwa La Ngwa.

Organisers say the reception goes beyond celebration, presenting a public endorsement of Governor Otti’s leadership style and policy direction since assuming office in May 2023. The gathering is widely seen as a political statement, reflecting growing grassroots approval of reforms centred on transparency, accountability and service delivery.

For years, residents of Ukwa La Ngwa endured decaying infrastructure, weak public institutions and economic decline under previous administrations. Aba, the commercial heartbeat of the South East, suffered severe neglect, with collapsed roads, failing schools and hospitals, rising insecurity and a mass exodus of businesses.

That narrative, supporters argue, has shifted significantly under the current administration. Across Aba and other parts of Ukwa La Ngwa, abandoned schools have been reopened, primary healthcare centres revived and major road projects completed or ongoing.

A key driver of the urban renewal has been the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA), under which more than 30 roads have been reconstructed and commissioned. Once-impassable routes such as Port Harcourt Road, Omuma Road, Ohanku Road and Ngwa Road have been restored, easing traffic flow and boosting commercial activity.

The revival of Aba Power has also emerged as a major highlight of Governor Otti’s tenure. Long plagued by operational setbacks, the power utility has been stabilised, delivering more reliable electricity to homes and businesses. The improvement has helped stimulate productivity and restore confidence among investors and traders in the city.

As preparations intensify for the Aba reception, leaders of Ukwa La Ngwa say the event will serve as a moment of collective gratitude and political unity. Supporters are expected to use the occasion to openly declare their backing for Governor Otti ahead of the 2027 elections.

With expectations high, organisers insist the stadium will be filled to capacity as residents gather to celebrate what they describe as a renewed sense of hope, dignity and direction for Abia State under Governor Otti’s leadership.
