Umar Ardo, promoter of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), has dismissed claims that the proposed political party is backed by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, Ardo described the allegations as “false and misleading,” adding that he has never met Obi and that the party operates independently.
He explained that rumours suggesting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was hesitant to register ADA because of Obi’s supposed involvement were untrue. Ardo stressed that even if Obi were a sponsor, he has the constitutional right as a Nigerian citizen to support a political party.
Ardo confirmed that ADA had fulfilled all legal requirements for registration but was disappointed by INEC’s refusal to grant approval. The promoters have now resolved to pursue legal redress, saying the matter would go to court and, if necessary, the Supreme Court.
“Whether or not Peter Obi is involved is irrelevant. I have not met him, nor has he been part of this process. ADA meets all legal criteria, and INEC’s refusal will be settled by the courts,” Ardo said.
He added that the party’s priority is establishing its legal rights, regardless of whether it participates in the upcoming elections.
