
Troops of the 159 Military Battalion in Kanamma, Yobe State, successfully intercepted suspected ISWAP terrorists attempting to steal roofing zinc from Ngamma Primary School in Ngamma village, Yunusari Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on February 9 around 9:00 p.m., when armed gunmen reportedly invaded the school, according to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region.
Makama disclosed that the insurgents mobilized some local youths to assist in removing the roofing materials. Security forces from the 159 Battalion were swiftly deployed, engaging the attackers and preventing the theft.
During the operation, a 19-year-old resident, Umar Maigari, sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was immediately taken to Specialist Hospital in Geidam, where he is receiving treatment and reportedly responding well.
Authorities confirmed that the situation has been contained, with ongoing monitoring and intelligence efforts to prevent further attacks in the area.
