Military Kills Six Boko Haram, ISWAP Terrorists as Troops Repel Attack on Adamawa Base

Nigerian troops have repelled an attack by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on a military base in Garaha, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing six insurgents and recovering weapons and ammunition.

The attack occurred at about 9:07 pm on Monday, October 12, 2026, when the armed group reportedly advanced on foot from the LAR axis and attempted to overrun the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Garaha. Troops of Sector 4, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, engaged the attackers and forced them to retreat.

Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer at the headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East), confirmed the incident in a statement obtained on Tuesday. He said the troops responded with superior firepower and tactical coordination to repel the assault.

Goni said a subsequent search of the area led to the discovery of six bodies believed to be those of the attackers. The military said the operation had prevented the suspected terrorists from taking over the base and potentially carrying out further attacks in the community.

The troops also recovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition, including one PKT machine gun with three ammunition belts containing 67 rounds, six AK-47 rifles and 11 AK-47 magazines. Other items recovered were 157 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one 60mm mortar bomb.

The military spokesperson added that personnel wounded during the confrontation were receiving medical attention. He said troops had maintained heightened vigilance in Garaha and nearby areas to guard against further attacks.

Garaha is among several communities in Hong Local Government Area that have faced repeated attacks in recent months and years. The community is also known as the birthplace of Boss Mustapha, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The latest clash highlights continuing security challenges in parts of the North-East, where military operations have been targeting Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters. The military said its troops remained alert in the area following the failed assault.
