Fresh violence has hit Zamfara State, after armed bandits launched coordinated attacks in Maradun and Zurmi local government areas, killing one person, injuring four others and abducting several residents.
Security sources said the first attack occurred around 6:00 pm on February 10 in Kaya Faru village, Maradun LGA, when gunmen stormed the community and opened fire on residents.
Four people, including Bello Yari, sustained gunshot wounds during the assault. The attackers later retreated to nearby hideouts.
Security operatives responded to a distress call and evacuated the injured victims to the General Hospital in Talata Mafara, where they are receiving treatment.
Hours earlier, at about 1:00 am, suspected bandits had invaded the Sanyawa area of Moriki District in Zurmi LGA.
During that attack, Lawali Musa was shot dead, while an unspecified number of residents were abducted and taken to an unknown destination.
Security forces were deployed to the area in a bid to repel the attackers and stabilise the community. The deceased was taken to the General Hospital, Moriki, for a post-mortem examination.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects, with efforts ongoing to rescue those abducted.
Zamfara remains one of the states hardest hit by banditry and rural violence in Nigeria’s North-West, despite sustained military operations targeting criminal enclaves.
The latest attacks underscore the persistent security challenges facing communities across the state, where residents continue to live under the threat of armed raids and kidnappings.
