Four members of Nigeria’s House of Representatives have formally joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing internal disputes in their former parties as the driving factor.

The defectors include Inuwa Garuba (Yamaltu/Deba, Gombe), Abdullahi El-Rasheed (Dakku/Nafada, Gombe), and Mohammed Audu (Karim Lamido/Lau/Ardo-Kola, Taraba), all of whom moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. Additionally, Obika Chinedu, who represents Abuja Municipal/Bwari in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), left the Labour Party (LP) for the APC.

Separately, Adewale Adebayo, representing Irepodun/Olorunda/Osogbo/Orolu in Osun State, defected from the PDP to the Accord Party.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, formally read the defection notices during Wednesday’s plenary session.

The lawmakers explained that prolonged leadership crises and internal conflicts within their former parties undermined confidence and hindered effective political engagement, prompting their decisions to switch allegiances.

These defections highlight continued political realignments ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming electoral cycles, reflecting growing instability within opposition parties.
