A senior figure in Nigeria’s ruling party has called on government appointees to prioritise inclusiveness and reward loyal supporters as the administration settles into office.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Umar Tanko Yakasai, has urged appointees of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that Nigerians feel the impact of governance by carrying citizens along in their responsibilities.

Speaking after an Iftar gathering in Abuja on Monday, Yakasai said those entrusted with public office must act as “a shining light” to the wider population.

Yakasai, who also serves as Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), stressed the importance of engaging supporters and strengthening political unity.

“Few of us that got appointed should do everything humanly possible to carry as many members of the support groups as they can along in order to distribute patronage and support one another as well as the president’s efforts to reward party faithfuls,” he said.

He further encouraged Nigerians to support the current administration while rejecting divisions based on ethnicity or religion.
