Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully foiled terrorist attacks and recovered an AK-47 rifle during separate security operations in Katsina State.
The operations took place in Kankara and Malumfashi Local Government Areas, where troops engaged suspected terrorists and disrupted their activities, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.
On March 15 at around 7:45 a.m., troops from the 17 Brigade operating from Forward Operating Base Mabai encountered suspected terrorists during a fighting patrol along the Kankara-Mabai Road. The engagement occurred near Ruwan Lafia crossing point, where the attackers fled after a brief gun battle, abandoning a motorcycle later recovered by the troops.
A separate operation in Malumfashi occurred on March 14 at approximately 11:10 p.m., following intelligence reports of terrorist activity in Ruwan Sanyi Village. Troops engaged the attackers, who fled, leaving behind signs of gunshot wounds. A follow-up search led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle loaded with 17 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Security sources confirmed that troops have intensified patrols across affected areas, maintaining dominance to prevent further attacks and restrict terrorist movements. The Nigerian Army continues to monitor these locations to ensure public safety and stability in Katsina State.
