Maiduguri Explosion: IGP Disu Visits Victims, Orders Security Crackdown at Monday Market

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has visited victims of the deadly explosions in Maiduguri, pledging intensified efforts to dismantle those behind the attack.

The police chief met with injured survivors receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital before proceeding to the blast site at the popular Monday Market for an on-the-spot assessment.

The visit, confirmed in a statement by the Nigeria Police Force, forms part of ongoing efforts to evaluate the damage and strengthen security operations in the region.

During his visit, Disu also held engagements at the Borno State Government House and the State Police Command Headquarters, where he reviewed the security situation with top officials.

Expressing condolences to victims and bereaved families, the IGP assured residents that authorities are taking decisive action to prevent further attacks.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in dismantling all networks responsible for the attacks and preventing any recurrence,” he said.

Security presence has since been significantly ramped up across Maiduguri and surrounding areas, with increased deployments, tighter surveillance, and coordinated joint operations involving multiple security agencies.

The attack has once again raised concerns over safety in the region, but police insist that reinforced measures are already in place to restore confidence and protect lives.
