A journey to a major political gathering ended in tragedy after three members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) delegation from Kebbi State lost their lives in a road accident while heading to Abuja.
The victims—Hadiza Sabo Warrah, a councillor representing Warrah Ward; Sahabi Alheri, councillor for Birnin Yauri Ward in Ngaski Local Government Area; and Abubakar Sadiq, Senior Special Assistant to the Kebbi State Governor on social media—were part of the state’s delegation to the party’s national convention.
Details released by the Kebbi State Government indicate that the incident happened after the victims’ vehicle stopped along the route to the Federal Capital Territory.
While attempting to cross the road, they were struck by a moving vehicle, sustaining injuries that proved fatal.
The circumstances surrounding the stop and the exact location of the accident have not been fully disclosed, but authorities confirmed all three died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Reacting to the incident, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, expressed deep shock and sorrow over the deaths.
In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki, the governor described the loss as devastating, noting that the deceased were committed public servants whose contributions to the state would not be forgotten.
He extended condolences to their families and prayed for the repose of their souls, asking for divine mercy and forgiveness.
The tragedy cast a sombre mood over what was meant to be a significant political event, highlighting the risks often associated with long-distance travel across Nigeria’s highways.
Colleagues and party members have continued to pay tribute to the victims, remembering them for their service and dedication at the grassroots and state levels.
