The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has pushed back against claims of disruption ahead of its national convention, insisting that preparations remain firmly on track despite reported attempts to block access to the venue.

A member of the party’s convention planning committee, Dino Melaye, said the party will proceed with its scheduled gathering, stressing that all contractual obligations for the venue had been fully met.

Reports had earlier suggested that the ADC convention, scheduled for Tuesday, faced uncertainty after organisers were allegedly denied access to the location.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Melaye said there were attempts to stop the event, including efforts to shut the venue gates and pressure organisers to vacate the premises.

He maintained that the committee stood its ground, arguing that the party had a valid agreement with the facility’s management and had already made full payment.

According to him, all necessary documentation, including receipts and signed contracts, were in their possession, making any attempt to halt the event unjustifiable.

Melaye, who also chairs the protocol committee for the convention, said the organisers would not be intimidated out of the venue, insisting that the legal and financial basis for the event was solid.

He expressed confidence in the ADC’s political direction, stating that the party is positioning itself as a serious challenger to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Nobody will stop us,” he said, adding that the convention would go ahead as planned and reaffirming the party’s determination to strengthen its presence on the national political stage.

The development comes amid heightened political activity within opposition ranks as parties prepare to consolidate structures ahead of future elections.
