Enugu Nurse Under Police Questioning After Viral Hospital Conditions Video Sparks ₦10m Legal Demand

A nursing officer in Enugu State, Joy Ezeugwu, is currently being questioned by police following her arrest over a viral video that exposed poor working conditions at a government health facility.

Ezeugwu, who works at Uwani General Hospital in Enugu, was picked up on Monday by officers attached to the Police Force Headquarters Annex under the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID).

Her arrest has triggered fresh debate over whistleblowing, workplace accountability, and the limits of internal reporting in public institutions.

According to reports shared by education technologist Alex Onyia on social media platform X, the nurse is currently writing a statement at the police facility in response to allegations contained in a petition filed against her.

The petition was reportedly submitted by Ifeyinwa Peace Okwudu, a former school administrator linked to the nurse’s past institution, who is now demanding ₦10 million in damages for alleged emotional and psychological distress.

Onyia described the situation as an attempt to silence the nurse, insisting that the case reflects a broader pattern of intimidation within educational and institutional settings.

The dispute stems from a viral video Ezeugwu released in April, where she highlighted deteriorating conditions at Uwani General Hospital, including lack of electricity and inadequate access to clean water.

The footage, which circulated widely online, showed frustrated health workers lamenting how the situation was affecting patient care and daily hospital operations.

Following the release of the video, Ezeugwu was reportedly suspended from her duty post, escalating tensions around the matter.

However, Okwudu, through her legal representatives, has disputed the nurse’s account, claiming the video was secretly recorded during a private staff meeting.

She alleged that participants were instructed to submit their mobile phones before the meeting began, and accused Ezeugwu of concealing a recording device to capture proceedings without consent.

The controversy has now drawn police involvement, with investigations ongoing into both the petition and the circumstances surrounding the viral video.

As of press time, neither the police nor hospital authorities have issued an official detailed statement on the outcome of the interrogation.
