Doctor Raises Alarm After Portable’s Boxing Loss, Urges Immediate Brain Scan Over Possible Head Injury

Concerns have been raised over the health of Nigerian singer Portable following his celebrity boxing defeat to skit maker Carter Efe, with a Canada-based Nigerian doctor warning that the entertainer may require urgent brain imaging.

The bout, which took place over the weekend in Lagos, drew massive online attention after Portable, popularly known for his “Zazuu” breakout hit, was defeated in a match that quickly went viral across social media platforms.

The fight, part of Nigeria’s growing celebrity boxing trend, has since sparked debate over safety standards and the physical risks involved in such exhibition events.

A Nigerian physician based in Canada, Dr Arinze Onwumelu, also known online as Dr Zo, publicly advised that Portable undergo a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan to rule out possible brain injury.

According to the doctor, some of the punches delivered during the bout may have targeted sensitive areas of the head, raising concerns about internal complications.

He warned that repeated blows could potentially lead to serious conditions, including subdural haematoma, a brain-related injury that may not show immediate symptoms but can become life-threatening if untreated.

“This is an exhibition match meant for entertainment, not a real fight to harm anyone,” he said in a video shared online. “The kind of punches he received means Portable may never recover from them. He should go for MRI and brain tests immediately.”

The doctor further suggested that organisers of such celebrity boxing events should introduce mandatory protective headgear to reduce the risk of head trauma among participants.

Portable had entered the match with confidence, having previously recorded wins in other celebrity bouts, including victories over figures such as Speed Darlington and actor Charles Okocha.

The latest defeat, however, has shifted attention from entertainment value to health concerns, with fans and commentators questioning whether such matches should be more tightly regulated.

As of now, Portable has not publicly responded to the medical concerns raised.
