Tension is building within the political landscape in Gombe State as former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, signals a fierce showdown over the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket.
Pantami, a prominent figure in the ruling party, says he is prepared to take extreme personal risks in what he describes as a fight against injustice within the party’s nomination process.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, Pantami insisted that he would emerge victorious if the party conducts a direct primary election to choose its governorship candidate.
He accused the current arrangement of favouring a consensus process he believes undermines fairness and internal democracy within the party structure.
“I will challenge this injustice of Gombe APC governorship consensus even if I lose my life doing it. If it’s direct primary, everybody knows, we will win,” he said.
Pantami further warned that he would not hesitate to pursue legal action if he feels the process is manipulated, describing his planned response as unprecedented in Nigeria’s political history.
“If there’s no justice, I will fight it legally, a fight like never seen before in Nigeria,” he added.
The statement comes amid growing internal disputes within the APC in Gombe over the method for selecting its governorship candidate ahead of future elections.
Party stakeholders are yet to issue a formal response to Pantami’s comments, as the internal battle over nomination strategy continues to deepen.
