Wike Mocks Peter Obi Over Defection, Says He’s Searching for “Food Is Ready” Political Party

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reignited political tensions with a sharp criticism of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following his reported defection to a new political platform.

Speaking during a media parley on Wednesday in Abuja, Wike accused Obi of political inconsistency, suggesting that his recent moves were driven by personal ambition rather than party-building ideology.

He claimed Obi had moved across multiple political platforms without leaving a lasting structure behind.

“Obi was in APGA, he couldn’t build APGA. He went to Labour, he ran away again from Labour. All he’s looking for is food is ready political party,” Wike said.

The comment is widely interpreted as a jab at Obi’s recent alignment with the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), alongside other political figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike’s remarks add another layer to the ongoing political rivalry between major actors already positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle.

He has consistently criticised opposition figures, arguing that many are more focused on political convenience than long-term party development.

Peter Obi, a former Anambra State governor, contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party and has remained a central figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics.

His recent political realignment has sparked debate across the country, with supporters describing it as strategic, while critics view it as opportunistic.

DAILY POST recalls that Obi and former NNPP presidential candidate Rabi’u Kwankwaso recently joined the NDC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
