Anambra Police Arrest Notorious Cult Executioner Who Confesses to Multiple Killings and Kidnappings

Security operatives in Anambra State have arrested a suspected cult member who allegedly operated as an executioner for a violent gang linked to multiple killings and kidnappings across the state.

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Favour Izunna, also known as “Njoku,” was arrested by the Special Anti-Cultism Unit in Enugwu Ukwu on April 30, 2026, in Obosi.

Police say the arrest marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing operations targeting cult-related violence and organised crime in the state.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the suspect has made disturbing confessions during interrogation.

He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered intensified operations to track down other members of the gang and their alleged sponsors who remain at large.

According to the statement, Izunna is believed to be a member of the Vikings Confraternity, where he allegedly served as an executioner responsible for terrorising communities around Obosi and its environs.

Police further disclosed that the suspect confessed to involvement in the killing of about five people, although he could only clearly identify three victims.

The victims named include Somtochukwu Alfred, Udechukwu Izuchukwu, and Izuchukwu Obi, all males.

Investigators say the suspect also mentioned unnamed sponsors who allegedly contracted him for targeted killings within the community, raising concerns about a wider criminal network.

During the operation, officers of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu recovered weapons believed to have been used in criminal activities.

Items recovered include a pump-action gun, five live cartridges, a locally made Beretta pistol, and seven rounds of 7.5mm ammunition.

Police also say Izunna confessed to participating in multiple kidnapping operations in Anambra State, including the abduction of Emeka Chukwuka and Chinelo Onyeka, among others.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing as efforts intensify to dismantle the wider cult and kidnapping network operating in the region.
