Nigeria’s Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has celebrated elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Reuben Fasoranti, describing him as a “pride of Nigeria” and a national asset as he marks his 100th birthday.

In a goodwill message released on Monday, the Sultan praised Fasoranti’s decades-long contributions to education, governance, and national development, saying his life represents rare consistency in public service and leadership.

He noted that Fasoranti’s influence has spanned several political eras in Nigeria, beginning from the time of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo through successive administrations, describing his journey as one marked by dedication and integrity.

The Sultan highlighted Fasoranti’s early career achievements, including his role as the first principal of Anglican Grammar School, Iju-Itaogbolu in 1957, as well as his service as Commissioner for Finance under the late Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin in the old Ondo State.

According to him, Fasoranti’s contributions to education and governance remain a reference point for leadership rooted in service and discipline.

“Chief Reuben Fasoranti has served Nigeria with distinction and dedication. Having contributed immensely to the greatness of this country, it is only fitting that Nigeria continues to honour and celebrate him as one of its most distinguished elder statesmen,” the Sultan said.

He further called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the centenarian, stressing that unity, peace, and national progress must remain central values in honouring such figures.

The Sultan also extended congratulations to Fasoranti’s family, associates, and supporters, praying for continued strength, good health, and longevity.

“We pray that Almighty God continues to bless him and make him a greater blessing to Ondo State and to Nigeria as a whole,” he added.
