Political tension has emerged in Bauchi State after House of Representatives member Mansur Manu Soro declared he will not contest in the 2027 general elections, effectively stepping away from both federal and senatorial ambitions.

The lawmaker, who represents Darazo-Ganjuwa Federal Constituency, confirmed his decision in a statement dated May 11, 2026, signed by his legislative aide, Safiyanu Ibrahim Darazo.

Soro clarified that he will not seek re-election to the House of Representatives and will also not pursue the Bauchi Central Senatorial seat, shutting down weeks of speculation about his next political move.

In his message, he expressed gratitude to constituents, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Governor Bala Mohammed for their support during the 2023 elections that returned him to the National Assembly.

Despite exiting the 2027 race, the lawmaker stressed that he remains committed to grassroots development, especially in education and healthcare projects within his constituency.

He pointed to initiatives such as primary and secondary school support programmes, the establishment of a National Open University study centre, and four paediatric hospital facilities spread across Darazo-Ganjuwa.

Soro recently resigned from the PDP on May 1, 2026, citing long-standing internal disputes and unresolved factional divisions that, according to him, weakened party unity over the past two years.

He later joined the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), a move that initially fuelled expectations that he would contest in 2027 under a new platform before his latest withdrawal from electoral politics.

Efforts to get a response from the APM leadership were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report, as calls and messages to the state chairman went unanswered.
