Two Undergraduates Feared Dead as Suspected Cult Clash Rocks Osun Community

Fear spread across Ede town in Osun State after a suspected cult clash reportedly left two undergraduates dead and several others injured during a late-night attack on an off-campus apartment.

The Osun State Police Command confirmed that one person was killed during the violent incident, while investigations into the clash have already commenced.

Police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed that the attack happened on Tuesday and was linked to suspected cult activities in the area.

“Suspected cultists had a clash on Tuesday, and one person was killed. Investigation is ongoing,” Ojelabi stated.

However, local sources and security insiders told DAILY POST that two students were allegedly killed after armed attackers stormed an apartment occupied by undergraduates in Ede.

According to reports, about six students were inside the residence when suspected cult members reportedly forced their way into the building and launched a brutal attack using dangerous weapons.

A police source familiar with the investigation revealed that the violence may be connected to an ongoing supremacy battle between rival cult groups operating within the community.

“The attack occurred in the night. The students were in their room when some cultists who were on a revenge mission forced their way into the apartment and started attacking them with dangerous weapons,” the source reportedly said.

The source added that several victims sustained serious injuries during the assault, while two of them later died from their wounds. Other injured students are currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Investigators are also reportedly looking into claims that the clash involved members of the notorious Aye and Buccaneer confraternities, two groups frequently linked to violent cult-related attacks across Nigerian campuses and surrounding communities.

The latest incident has once again raised concerns over growing cult violence in tertiary institution environments and nearby residential areas, especially in parts of southwest Nigeria where clashes between rival groups have repeatedly turned deadly.

Residents around the affected area were said to have fled indoors during the attack as panic spread through the neighbourhood.

Police authorities have assured residents that efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those behind the killings.
