A major security crackdown in Edo State has led to the arrest of more than 10 suspected criminals linked to offences ranging from armed robbery and theft to fraud.
Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) carried out the arrests during coordinated operations across the state over the weekend, following intelligence reports on criminal activities in several communities.
Speaking to journalists in Benin City, the Deputy Commander of the ESSC in charge of operations, Richard Balogun, said the suspects were apprehended after credible intelligence pointed security operatives to their locations.
According to Balogun, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly involved in a range of criminal offences, including armed robbery, theft and fraudulent activities that have been affecting residents.
He disclosed that some of those arrested have already made confessional statements regarding their alleged involvement in the crimes, helping investigators uncover more details about their operations.
The ESSC deputy commander stressed that the security outfit remains committed to tackling criminality and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Edo State.
He noted that the arrests demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations and collaboration among security stakeholders in combating crime.
Balogun further revealed that all suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with the law.
Reaffirming the corps’ commitment to public safety, he warned that the ESSC maintains a zero-tolerance stance against criminal activities and will continue to pursue individuals involved in acts that threaten peace and security in the state.
