TAMALE, Ghana – Two Nigerian nationals are set to face prosecution in Ghana over the alleged murder of a fellow Nigerian, who investigators believe was killed following a dispute over proceeds from suspected internet fraud activities.
The suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were arrested by the Northern Regional Police Command after the body of Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, 36, was discovered in his apartment in Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale.
According to a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service, officers launched an investigation after receiving a report that the victim had been found lying in a pool of blood inside his bedroom.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased shared a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects, and another Nigerian identified as Godwin Nwafor.
Crime scene investigators found the victim with a deep cut to his forehead and a towel stuffed into his mouth. The room also showed signs of being ransacked.
Police recovered a wooden pestle, believed to have been used in the attack, along with other items for forensic examination.
The victim was rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for an autopsy.
According to the police, intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of the two suspects later that day in Tatale, where they were allegedly attempting to flee through the Ghana-Togo border.
During interrogation, investigators said the suspects allegedly confessed to conspiring to kill the victim, claiming he had withheld money generated from their suspected internet fraud operations.
A subsequent search reportedly led to the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen from the victim’s room, including mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, wristwatches, clothing, personal documents and other valuables.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that everyone connected with the alleged crime is brought to justice and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to support the investigation.
