Spain and Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has become the latest footballer targeted by suspected burglars after intruders reportedly attempted to break into his home just hours after he helped Spain book a place in the FIFA World Cup final.
The attempted burglary occurred on Wednesday at a property in Esplugues de Llobregat, a suburb on the outskirts of Barcelona. Catalan regional police confirmed that an attempted break-in took place but did not officially identify the homeowner, citing privacy concerns.
Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia reported that the residence belongs to the 19-year-old winger, who was away on international duty when the incident happened.
According to the report, two suspects wearing balaclavas climbed over the property’s perimeter wall but were confronted by private security guards before gaining entry. The pair reportedly fled the scene immediately, and no arrests have been announced.
The property has attracted public attention in the past because it was previously owned by former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué and Colombian music superstar Shakira during their years together in the Catalan city.
The attempted break-in came only hours after Spain defeated France 2-0 in Texas to secure a place in the FIFA World Cup final. Yamal played a key role in the victory, winning the first-half penalty that Mikel Oyarzabal converted to give La Roja the lead before they sealed the win.
The incident adds to a growing list of burglaries involving high-profile footballers in Spain. In recent years, stars including Karim Benzema, Rodrygo, and Dani Carvajal have also experienced break-ins or attempted burglaries at their homes, raising ongoing concerns over the security of elite athletes.
Authorities have not released further details as investigations into Wednesday’s attempted burglary continue.
