Police in Jigawa State have launched an investigation into the sudden death of a 60-year-old man who reportedly collapsed inside a hotel in Dutse after checking in with a 20-year-old woman.
The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, saying officers are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
According to the police, the deceased and the young woman checked into the hotel before requesting a meal. Shortly afterwards, the man reportedly developed a medical emergency and began gasping for air, prompting an emergency response.
Officers attached to the Yalwawa Police Division were dispatched to the scene and immediately rushed him to the General Hospital, Dutse, where medical personnel examined him and confirmed that he had died.
As part of the ongoing investigation, detectives searched the hotel room and recovered several items, including food, drinks, a suspected sexual enhancement substance and other personal belongings. The recovered items are expected to aid investigators in establishing the events leading to the man’s death.
Police also disclosed that the deceased’s body was released to his family for burial following their request, while the 20-year-old woman who accompanied him is cooperating with investigators by providing details about the incident.
The command appealed to members of the public to refrain from spreading rumours or speculation, assuring residents that the case would be investigated thoroughly, professionally and impartially before any conclusions are reached.
