Nigerian music executive and artist manager Ubi Franklin has opened up about one of the darkest periods of his life, revealing that he attempted suicide multiple times after the breakdown of his marriage to actress Lilian Esoro.

Speaking in a video shared on his Instagram page, Franklin said he decided to tell his story to encourage others battling emotional struggles and to remind people that personal pain can affect anyone, regardless of fame or financial success.

The music executive recalled that despite enjoying a thriving career and managing some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars at the time, he became overwhelmed by depression after his marriage collapsed. He said he struggled to understand why the relationship ended, insisting he believed he had done nothing wrong.

“I went through some crazy depressing positions. I remember one time I bought a red CL, and I drove that car to the Third Mainland Bridge to go and commit suicide,” Franklin said.

He disclosed that his cousin, Omini Stitches, repeatedly intervened during those difficult moments and prevented him from taking his own life.

“The only luck I had was my cousin brother Omini Stitches that came to save me. Several times I had tried to commit suicide, Omini saved me. Because I was so embarrassed, I didn’t know what to do. I felt like, what have I done to deserve all of this? I had a good career going for myself. I had some of the biggest artists in the country at the time. Everything was fine, so I just felt like it was time for me to settle down,” he said.

Reflecting on his failed marriage, Franklin said he has accepted that not every relationship is meant to last. Although he still cannot fully explain what went wrong, he noted that he and Esoro now maintain a healthy friendship and successfully co-parent their son.

He described their son as the greatest blessing to come from the marriage and said he continues to support his former wife whenever he has the opportunity, while wishing her continued success.

Franklin also urged people not to allow painful experiences to turn into lifelong hatred, saying difficult seasons can offer valuable lessons if approached with the right mindset.

“The lesson I want you to learn from this is, I don’t want you to think that when something happens with another human being, you have to hate that person. Sometimes it’s just an opportunity for you to learn from the process and keep moving.”

His emotional account has sparked conversations online about mental health, depression, and the importance of seeking support during life’s most challenging moments.
