2027: Peter Obi Dismisses Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as ‘Renewed Hopelessness’

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has launched a fresh attack on President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing the administration’s flagship policy direction as “renewed hopelessness” and promising what he called a more practical approach to governance if elected in 2027.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the former Anambra State governor argued that the current administration’s policies have failed to improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians or restore public confidence in government.

Obi made the remarks while responding to questions about his economic blueprint, particularly whether his emphasis on rebuilding Nigeria through increased production mirrors the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Rejecting the comparison, the former Labour Party presidential candidate insisted that the government’s economic direction has not produced the desired results.

“No, no. That’s renewed hopelessness. It’s not working,” Obi said.

He maintained that Nigerians deserve more than campaign slogans, stressing that leadership should be measured by visible improvements in citizens’ lives rather than political messaging.

“The kind of hope I’ll bring is real hope — tangible hope that people will see and feel,” he added.

Obi’s comments come as political rhetoric ahead of the 2027 general election continues to intensify, with opposition figures increasingly scrutinising the Tinubu administration’s performance on the economy, cost of living, and governance.

The latest remarks are expected to fuel further debate over the Federal Government’s economic policies as political parties position themselves for what is shaping up to be a fiercely contested presidential election.
