Ogun Police Bust Suspected Cattle Theft Syndicate, Recover Six Stolen Cows in Sagamu

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have dismantled a suspected cattle theft syndicate in Sagamu, arresting two suspects and recovering six stolen cows during a coordinated operation.

The suspects, identified as Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37, were apprehended after police responded to reports of a cattle theft incident in the Maskoli area of Sagamu Local Government Area.

Confirming the operation on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said officers also recovered a blue Nissan Cabster bus believed to have been used by the syndicate during the operation.

Babaseyi explained that the breakthrough followed a distress call received on Saturday, informing the police that suspected cattle thieves had invaded a cow yard in Maskoli and made away with seven cows.

He said police operatives immediately launched a coordinated response, deploying patrol teams to strategic exit routes around the area. Acting on credible intelligence, officers intercepted suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway, disrupting the suspects’ escape plan.

“Their swift intervention frustrated the criminal operation, leading to the arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of six of the seven stolen cows, as well as the operational vehicle abandoned during the failed escape,” Babaseyi said.

The police spokesperson disclosed that investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the alleged syndicate, recover the remaining stolen cow and ensure everyone connected to the crime is brought to justice.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies by promptly reporting suspicious persons and activities, noting that public cooperation remains crucial in tackling crime across the state.
