Suspected bandits have launched a coordinated overnight attack on Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State, killing a security guard at the residence of the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, while abducting several residents in different parts of the town.

The attack reportedly occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, according to North-West crisis reporter Bakatsine, who shared details of the incident on his X account.

Among the targets was the home of the institution’s rector, Dr. Aminu Yusuf. During the raid, the attackers allegedly shot dead his security guard, Isah Yankaba, while attempting to gain access to the residence.

Dr. Yusuf reportedly escaped with his wife and daughter by climbing over the perimeter fence. The rector was said to have sustained a leg injury while fleeing the attackers.

The gunmen later moved to Hayin Baguso, where they reportedly abducted the wife and daughter of a resident identified simply as Ibrahim. Residents said the assailants continued their operation across the town despite efforts by security agencies to contain the situation.

Another attempted attack targeted the residence of businessman Alhaji Salisu Azaria, but security operatives reportedly responded swiftly, forcing the armed men to abandon the operation and flee the area.

The attackers were also said to have invaded the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda, where they abducted a university lecturer, Dr. Namadina Hamza, before escaping to an unknown destination.

As of the time of filing this report, the Zamfara State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the attack or confirmed the reported casualties and abductions.
