Madumere Hails Mbieri Daughters, Says Educating Girls Is Key to National Development

Former Deputy Governor of Imo State and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Imo East Senatorial District in the 2027 election, Prince Ezeakonobi Madumere, MFR, has commended the Mbieri Daughters Association USA (MDAUSA) for its contributions to community development, describing the education of the girl child as one of the most valuable investments any society can make.

Madumere made the remarks during the 2026 Houston Convention of the association, held in Houston, Texas, where he congratulated its leadership and members for successfully organising the event.

He said the gathering reflected the enduring unity, patriotism and commitment of Mbieri daughters in the diaspora towards the development of their homeland.

Describing himself as a proud son of Mbieri, Madumere praised the achievements of the association and its members, attributing their success to hard work, determination and a shared vision for the progress of their families, communities, Imo State and Nigeria.

‘Educate a Girl, Advance a Nation’

The former deputy governor applauded the convention’s theme, “Educate a Girl, Advance a Nation,” describing it as timely in view of the social and economic challenges confronting families and communities.

He said his life experiences had reinforced his belief that girls must be equipped with quality education and practical skills to prepare them for future responsibilities.

According to him, women often become the primary providers for their families when unforeseen circumstances such as illness or death affect those expected to shoulder that responsibility.

Madumere stressed that educating girls empowers them to overcome such challenges and contribute meaningfully to society.

“An educated girl becomes a good mother who raises responsible and productive citizens,” he said.

He further noted that educated women continue to excel in leadership and contribute significantly across sectors, including medicine, engineering, public service and politics.

Quoting the biblical injunction to “train up a child in the way he should go,” Madumere said the principle applies equally to boys and girls.

He described women as “the salt of the earth,” adding that their contributions remain indispensable to the growth and prosperity of society.

Association highlights achievements

Earlier, the Pioneer President of the Mbieri Daughters Association USA, Dr. Adaugo Ibe, disclosed that the association, established four years ago by 30 Mbieri women, has continued to make meaningful contributions to education and community development.

She said the association has provided financial support to the Community of Hope Centre for Women and Girls in Washington, D.C., while also launching a scholarship programme for girls in Mbieri.

According to her, the association has funded WAEC and NECO registration fees for more than 39 students, while 46 girls are currently benefiting from its financial support programme.

Dr. Ibe commended members of the executive council and the association’s supporters for their commitment to achieving its objectives.

She specifically acknowledged key members of the executive, including Vice President Eziada Ngozi Nwanne, General Secretary Dr. Mrs. Chinma Njoku, Assistant General Secretary Barr. (Dame) Flora Ozuzu, Social Director Princess (Dame) Ekeoma Eronini, Treasurer Ms. Ijeoma Ikpeama, Financial Secretary Lolo Ngozi Iwuji, Public Relations Officer Mrs. Chinyere Igbonagwam, and Provost Lolo Felicia Ikpeama.

Madumere also joined other Nigerian professionals in the diaspora in making donations to support the association’s projects aimed at promoting the education and empowerment of the girl child.
