Taraba CP Urges Officers to Uphold Professionalism After Tactical Training

The Commissioner of Police in Taraba State, Moorkwap S. Dongshal, has urged police personnel to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force by demonstrating professionalism, discipline and integrity in their interactions with members of the public.

Dongshal gave the charge on Tuesday in Jalingo at the conclusion of a specialised training programme for police constables on weapon handling and tactical manoeuvres.

The training was designed to enhance the operational preparedness, professionalism and capacity of officers to respond effectively to emerging security challenges across the country.

Respect human rights, CP tells officers

Commending the participants for their commitment throughout the exercise, the commissioner urged them to remain disciplined, diligent and committed to the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

According to him, operational competence must be matched with sound judgment and respect for the rights of citizens.

“The acquisition of tactical and operational skills must be complemented by sound judgment, respect for human rights, and strict adherence to the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Dongshal said.

He also stressed the need for strict compliance with the Rules of Engagement and Force Order 237, noting that the use of force during police operations must always be lawful, necessary and proportionate.

Commitment to continuous training

Dongshal reaffirmed the Taraba State Police Command’s commitment to continuous training and retraining of personnel in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

He said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force, improve crime prevention, protect lives and property, and maintain peace and security.

According to the commissioner, the programme aligns with the Inspector-General’s directive on continuous capacity building for officers to ensure they possess the skills and knowledge required to perform their constitutional duties effectively.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to delivering professional, people-oriented and efficient policing services across Taraba State.
