Osun Decides 2026: Adeleke Urges Voters to Reject APC, Defends Workers’ Welfare Record

With the August 15 Osun State governorship election drawing closer, Governor Ademola Adeleke has intensified his campaign, urging residents to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) and back his re-election bid under the Accord Party.

In a message shared on his official X account on Thursday, Adeleke accused the previous APC administration of neglecting civil servants, alleging that workers endured severe hardship due to the payment of half salaries during the party’s time in office.

The governor argued that Osun must not return to what he described as a difficult period for public workers and their families.

“We will not allow APC to take Osun back to the days when civil servants had to beg their neighbours for food. Those who once weaponised poverty by paying workers half salaries, leaving civil servants to struggle to feed their families, and denying our people access to basic necessities are desperate to return to inflict more pain. We must never go back to those dark days,” Adeleke said.

Calling on eligible voters to participate in the governorship election, Adeleke said the poll offers Osun residents an opportunity to choose what he described as continued progress, compassion and responsible governance.

“On August 15, I urge every eligible voter to send a clear and resounding message that Osun has chosen the path of progress, compassion, and good governance. Together, we will protect the mandate of the people and keep Osun moving forward,” he stated.

The governor also defended his administration’s handling of workers’ welfare, insisting that improving the conditions of civil servants has remained one of his government’s key priorities since taking office.

According to Adeleke, the APC’s relationship with public workers is well documented in the state, while his administration has consistently prioritised the welfare of employees and the wider population.

He further reacted to the recent freezing of the Osun State Government’s accounts, expressing confidence that the development would strengthen public support for his administration rather than weaken it ahead of the election.

“The unjust freezing of state accounts will only strengthen the resolve of our people to do everything necessary to ensure Osun never returns to the era of darkness. The choice is clear: progress over regression, good governance over neglect. Accord over APC,” the governor added.

The August 15 governorship election is expected to be one of the most closely watched political contests in the country, with both major parties intensifying campaigns across the state.
