Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has challenged Senator Adams Oshiomhole to make his academic certificates public following the senator’s description of him as “shallow” and “unreliable”.
Amaechi, who is identified in the report as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, made the challenge while responding to Oshiomhole’s recent criticism of his political conduct and credibility.
Speaking on Rapid TV, the former governor attributed the senator’s attacks to his role in the removal of Oshiomhole as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Amaechi claimed he led the group that worked for Oshiomhole’s removal because, in his view, the former Edo State governor was unable to manage the affairs of the ruling party effectively.
He also questioned Oshiomhole’s academic qualifications, listing degrees he said he had obtained in Nigeria and abroad before challenging the senator to publish his own certificates.
The disagreement followed Oshiomhole’s description of Amaechi as “shallow” and “unreliable”, alongside accusations that the former governor repeatedly criticised the APC and President Bola Tinubu.
Amaechi recalled that Oshiomhole had previously supported his emergence as chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, questioning why the senator now appeared to hold a different view of his intellectual capacity.
Oshiomhole, however, questioned Amaechi’s political consistency, recalling his previous criticism of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and his description of the ADC presidential primary that produced Atiku as fraudulent.
The senator alleged that Amaechi changed his position after Atiku approached him for political cooperation.
Oshiomhole also accused the former Rivers governor of mismanaging public funds during his administration and leaving behind abandoned projects.
Amaechi rejected the allegations, questioning why Oshiomhole had waited 12 years before raising the accusations against him.
He maintained that the claims were false and challenged the senator to explain the delay in making them public.
The exchange has brought their political differences into focus, with both men questioning each other’s political records, credibility and previous positions.
