Atletico Madrid Reject €75m Victor Osimhen Transfer Despite Striker’s Willingness to Take Pay Cut

Atletico Madrid have reportedly ruled out a move for Victor Osimhen, rejecting the chance to sign the Nigerian striker despite his willingness to accept a salary reduction to complete the switch to Spain.

According to Club Uria, as reported by Goal, intermediaries approached the La Liga giants with an offer to sign the Galatasaray forward for around €75 million during the current transfer window.

The report claims Osimhen was open to earning less than his current wages in Turkey to secure a move to the Spanish capital and play under Diego Simeone. However, Atletico decided not to pursue the deal.

Financial considerations are believed to have played a major role in the club’s decision. Atletico are reportedly unwilling to commit to a transfer of that value as they continue to manage their spending during the summer window.

Another factor influencing the decision is the club’s confidence in Julián Álvarez, who occupies the central attacking role in Simeone’s squad. Club officials are said to view the Argentine as a key part of their long-term plans, leaving little need to invest heavily in another striker.

Osimhen, who is under contract with Galatasaray until 2029, currently earns a lucrative salary boosted by Turkey’s tax incentives for foreign players. Despite that, the Super Eagles forward was reportedly prepared to take a pay cut in a bid to realise his ambition of playing in La Liga.

The latest development adds another twist to Osimhen’s transfer story, with several European clubs previously linked to the prolific striker. For now, however, Atletico Madrid have made it clear they will not proceed with a deal, leaving the Nigerian international’s immediate future at Galatasaray.
