Davido Remains My Son, We Support Peaceful Osun Election — Uzodinma Clarifies

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has reaffirmed his relationship with Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, declaring that the singer “remains my son” despite recent political disagreements linked to the upcoming Osun State governorship election.

Uzodinma, who serves as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and heads the APC Osun Governorship Campaign Council, made the clarification in a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, Oguwike Nwachuku.

The governor’s response followed remarks reportedly made by Ambrose Nwogwugwu, who criticised Davido after the award-winning musician called for a peaceful, free and credible governorship election scheduled for August 15 in Osun State.

Davido, whose uncle is Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, had urged Uzodinma to ensure that the poll is conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner. His comments generated political reactions, prompting the Imo governor to distance himself from statements attributed to Nwogwugwu.

Uzodinma stressed that Nwogwugwu was not authorised to speak on his behalf or represent the position of the APC governorship campaign council.

“The comments are personal opinions and do not represent my position or that of the APC governorship campaign council,” the governor stated.

Reiterating his personal relationship with the music star, Uzodinma said, “Davido remains my son.” He added that his own presence in Osun is purely political, noting that he is not a registered voter in the state but is participating in campaign activities to support the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

The governor also maintained that the APC is committed to ensuring a peaceful, transparent and credible election in Osun State. He noted that it is common in democratic systems for political leaders to campaign for their party’s candidates in states where they are not registered voters.

Uzodinma urged Davido, Osun residents and the wider public to disregard the comments attributed to Nwogwugwu, saying the clarification was necessary to avoid misconceptions as preparations intensify for the governorship election.
