NDC Inaugurates Pat Utomi-Led Reconciliation Committee to Resolve Party Disputes Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched a major reconciliation drive aimed at resolving internal disputes and strengthening party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

At the inauguration ceremony held on Thursday, NDC National Chairman Moses Cleopas announced Professor Pat Utomi as chairman of the National Reconciliation Committee, while veteran politician Buba Galadima will serve as co-chairman.

Cleopas said the committee has been tasked with addressing grievances arising from the party’s congresses, convention and primary elections. He urged members to carry out their assignment with fairness, impartiality and strict adherence to the party’s constitution.

“Your assignment is not merely to settle disputes; it is to rebuild confidence, restore trust, strengthen unity, and reassure every member that the NDC remains one united family where justice, fairness, equity, and inclusion shall continue to prevail,” Cleopas told the committee.

The party chairman also appealed to aspirants who did not secure nominations to remain committed to the party’s objectives. He noted that although only one candidate could emerge for each elective position, unsuccessful aspirants remain valuable members whose experience and contributions will be crucial as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.

Cleopas stressed the need for an inclusive campaign, saying every committed member should have an opportunity to contribute to the party’s electoral success. He added that all grievances should be heard and addressed through dialogue to strengthen internal cohesion.

“Our campaign must therefore be inclusive. Every committed member must have a role to play. Every stakeholder must feel a sense of belonging. Every grievance, honestly expressed, deserves a listening ear,” he said.

He further called on party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and members across the country to cooperate fully with the reconciliation committee, expressing confidence that its work would position the NDC for a united and competitive outing in the 2027 general elections.
