A 19-year-old woman, Aisha Musa, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command over an alleged attempt to poison her husband in Gwamma village, Bauchi Local Government Area.
The incident reportedly occurred on August 12, barely 40 days after the couple got married. Police said the suspect allegedly put a poisonous substance in her husband’s food.
The husband fell ill after consuming the food and was taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for treatment. The police said he remains in a stable condition.
The command said officers were alerted through a distress call from an unidentified woman and quickly deployed to the location. Musa was subsequently arrested in connection with the alleged incident.
According to the police, the suspect confessed during questioning. “Suspect confessed. SCID investigating,” the command stated in a post on its official X account on Thursday.
Investigators also recovered an empty bottle believed to have contained the suspected poison, as well as remnants of the food. The items have been kept as exhibits as the investigation continues.
The police command said its State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is handling the case. Authorities have not disclosed the suspected motive behind the alleged poisoning.
The development remains an allegation, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court.
