Osun Governorship Election: INEC Says 94.5% of Polling Units Opened by 8:30am

Voting has commenced across Osun State, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reporting that 3,556 of the state’s 3,763 polling units had opened by 8:30am on Saturday.

The commission gave the update in an election situation report shared on its official X account as voters turned out to elect the next governor of Osun State.

INEC said 207 polling units, representing 5.5 per cent of the total, experienced minor delays in opening. However, the affected units had become operational by 9:00am.

“3,556 of 3,763 Polling Units (94.5%) had opened,” the commission stated in its situation report.

The electoral body also confirmed that activation of all 332 Registration Area Centres (RACs) across the state was completed by 6:09pm on Friday, ahead of the election.

INEC said the deployment and activation process was completed without major disruption, describing the RAC activation and polling unit opening as peaceful, orderly and timely.

The Osun governorship election is being closely watched as voters across the state decide who will lead the state for the next four years.

INEC is expected to continue issuing situation reports throughout the voting process, including updates on accreditation, voter turnout and the conduct of the election.
