2027 Will Be Different From Osun, Rufai Oseni Warns Nigerians Over Election Risks

Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has warned Nigerians against assuming that the outcome of the 2026 Osun State governorship election will be repeated during the 2027 general elections.

Oseni said the political and security challenges surrounding the 2027 polls could be significantly greater, urging voters to understand the potential risks and prepare for them rather than assume that the Osun experience would automatically set the pattern for next year’s elections.

Speaking on Monday, the Morning Show anchor said his warnings before the Osun election were aimed at helping voters recognise possible dangers and respond appropriately, rather than creating fear.

“Last week, when I was telling the people the challenges they would face, it was not to scare them. No, I believe in telling the people the truth so that they know how to react to dangers,” Oseni said.

He argued that voters should not underestimate the lessons from Osun or assume that similar resistance would make the 2027 elections easier. Oseni said Nigerians needed to conduct their own risk assessment and remain alert as the general elections approach.

“Just like I’m going to tell the Nigerian people the risks involved. If you think because Osun people stood up, it will be easy in 2027, you are foolish. You are delusional,” he said.

Oseni further warned that the use of federal power during the Osun election could be more extensive during the 2027 general elections. He argued that those involved could study what happened in Osun and adjust their strategy ahead of the nationwide polls.

“2027 is going to be different from Osun. The federal might that they used and couldn’t execute, they will use it three times over. They will go back to the drawing board and try to perfect it,” he said.

His comments come after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Ademola Adeleke the winner of the Osun governorship election on Sunday, according to the report cited by DAILY POST. Oseni’s warning, however, is focused on the broader political risks he believes could emerge during the 2027 general elections.
