Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has paid homage to his elder brother, Adedeji Adeleke, after securing a second term in office, with a video of the governor prostrating before his sibling attracting attention online.
Adeleke visited his elder brother in Osogbo on Wednesday shortly after collecting his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission, following his victory in the August 15 governorship election.
In the viral video, the governor was seen prostrating before Adedeji Adeleke in a traditional show of respect. His elder brother warmly received him and offered prayers for him.
Adedeji Adeleke, who is the father of Afrobeats star Davido, had publicly expressed support for his younger brother during the election campaign and credited his victory to prayer rather than financial inducements.
Speaking in a video on Monday, the businessman recalled concerns over the amount of money allegedly being spent during the election and said he prayed that voters would collect any money offered to them but still vote according to their conscience.
“God Almighty, please let people collect their money, but let them still vote for Ademola Adeleke,” he said.
His comments came after Adeleke emerged victorious in a closely contested election, securing 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress.
The governor’s visit to his elder brother came amid a series of post-election engagements following the formal presentation of his Certificate of Return by INEC.
Adeleke has pledged to use his second term to consolidate his administration’s achievements while addressing areas where his government fell short during its first term.
